Ranking Nebraska’s Lucky Numbers: Part III

Coming in at No. 3: #93

  • Ndamukong Suh, DT, 2005-2009

A year ago, #93 may not have made this top five list, but the House of Spears just finished one of the greatest seasons in Husker football history, capped by a myriad of trophies along with a fourth place Heisman finish (which is still a bit low). Even though he’s held a degree for less than a year, he has already donated $2 million to the strength and conditioning center and $600,000 to permanently endow an engineering scholarship. He is an incredible human being and representative for the University of Nebraska.

  • Jared Tomich, RE, 1993-1996

One of the few two-time All-Americans at Nebraska, Jared Tomich was a staple on the defensive line during the ‘90s championship run. He led the team in sacks as a junior (9.0) and along with Grant Wistrom and a combination of the Peter brothers anchored a Nebraska defense that gave up less than 14 points per game in both 1995 and 1996. To top it all off, he was a walk-on. Today, Jared lives just outside Chicago and is looking forward to being close to many Husker away games in the Big 10.

  • Travis Hill, OLB, 1989-1992

Travis Hill was another All-American, named so in 1992 by the American Football Coaches Association. Husker fans should remember him well, as he played in every game during his career at Nebraska and finished in the top six on the team in total tackles from 1990-1992. Hill, along with big man John Parrella, was known for his vicious sacks and left Nebraska one of the top players ever from the state of Texas.

Nos. 2 and 1 are coming soon. Keep guessing as to what jersey numbers top #7, #15 and #93.

This is fun, I love remembering jersey numbers in history.

Lemme guess, are the next two lucky numbers #30 and #20, since those are the numbers of Heisman winners? Or maybe #12 (though I can’t remember a lot of great #12s other than Turner Gill.)

#30 has got to top the list though, since both Rozier and Ahman rocked it.
